For those that have a pc to to the license, you may want to check out this little help sheet I put together for the PC side of the house, the Syntax error some of you are getting trying this on a MAC, can possibly be corrected with this help sheet. I am going to do this on a Macbook later on today, but in the mean time any of you that want to try it, here it is: 1. First Create a directory on the c: drive (even if you install maya on different drive) called FLEXLM. Copy the aw.dat and awkeygen.exe file to this directory. Install Maya.
Goto start-all programs-Autodesk-common utilities-FlexLM license utilities. Under system settings copy Ethernet address. Open the file (from the directory FLEXLM) aw.dat with Wordpad and replace the words 'your host' with the copied Ethernet address. Save and close wordpad. Using the run utility and type: awkeygen.exe aw.dat. Goto start-all programs-Autodesk-Maya 2008-Licensing select 'I would like to install license from a file'. Browse to the path of the file aw.dat.
Click install. Restart computer. NOTE. In the event the license doesnt load and you get a license file error do the following. It is a workaround I have done to get this to work in WINDOWS XP MACHINES.
WINDOWS 2000, 2003 MACHINES I HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH. Here it is step by step. This is how i fixed the little f. Up in the maya license 1. On your C: drive even if you install the progie somewhere else make a folder called FLEXLM copy the aw.dat file and awkegen.exe to that folder.
All the way thru till it says complete. Click StartAll ProgramsAutodeskCommon UtilitysFlexLM License Utilitys once in the license utility, you will see tabs at the top, pick System Settings.
Under system settings you will see on your left 5 fields down something called 'Ethernet Address' here is the way mine looks '0019b9c9f173 7a79058de983' this info comes from your network adapter card aka: NIC. Copy this to the clipboard, and open the aw.dat file up in Wordpad, not notepad or word, this makes a difference! Your gonna copy the ethernet address to the aw dat file line where it says HOSTID=YOUR HOST replaceing the words 'YOUR HOST' with the actual ethernet address you have copied. reminder, dont use the one I showed you as an example above, these are unique to each machine. Now save this file, just click File Save and exit wordpad. Now click StartRun and in the runbox type the following: c: flexlm awkegen.exe aw.dat then click run, a dosbox will flash and go away.
Try and run maya if it runs, great, if not and it gives some sorta license error. Just reopen the aw.dat file in wordpad and delete the 1st 3 lines of it. It will look like a bunch of syntax code err love. Here is an example of my finished working aw.dat file: Code: License text: 7a79058de983 FLEXlm error: -2,313 FEATURE MayaUnltd sgiawd 2008.000 permanent uncounted 3EA65AEEEA99 HOSTID=0019b9c9f173 it will be above the License text line you see here you will delete. Dont trip on the FLEXlm error message, just leave that alone, this is what yours should look like when its finished. Just do the edit and save it back with wordpad and run maya it should load now!!!
