Korg announces the availability of its Kaossilator 2 Dynamic Phrase Synthesizer and Mini Kaoss Pad 2 Dynamic Effect Processor. Each offers a sleek new design with ergonomic styling, a high-visibility organic electroluminescent (OEL) display, and Korg's well-known X-Y touchpad, all in a compact body with battery operation for shirt pocket portability.
A powerful music production tool with an X-Y touchpad to engage hundreds of programs, instrument sounds, audio effects, scales, audio effects, loops, MIDI, editor software, and much more. The KAOSSILATOR PRO is a supercharged version of KORG's palm-sized KAOSSILATOR, reborn as a powerful track-making tool, then loaded with live performance power. As a trailblazer among instrumental gadgets that allow anyone to easily create melodies and phrases, KORG's KAOSSILATOR gained a strong and dedicated user base, even among those without any performing experience and today, the KORG KAOSSILATOR touchpad synthesizer continues to be enormously popular.
Retaining these revolutionary features, while adding a wide variety of new ones as well, is the KAOSSILATOR PRO. With 200 sound programs, an Electribe-inspired gate arpeggiator, and 4 loop recording banks that can record external audio sources, the KORG KAOSSILATOR PRO is packed with features that make it ideal for both live performances and premium productions. In addition, USB connectivity to your computer and SD card memory storage allow the KORG KAOSSILATOR PRO to be used not just for improvised performances, but also as a superbly intuitive, track-making, music-production tool. Intuitive X-Y touchpad: Using the KORG synth's touchpad is highly intuitive: simply rub, stroke, or tap it to instantly create complex phrases with a single finger. Responding instantly to these gestures, the KORG KAOSSILATOR PRO synthesizer creates spontaneous changes that were difficult to produce on synthesizers of the past.
Horizontal motions control the pitch, while the vertical axis can control tone parameters such as cutoff, feedback, or modulation depth. This makes it easy for anyone to create entirely original sounds and musical phrases. 200 exciting programs: KORG's synthesizer technology, which is acclaimed by top musicians around the world, has been carefully distilled into the KAOSSILATOR PRO.
The touchpad synth's versatile array of pro-level sounds includes synths, drums, FX, and other instruments. These sounds complement all styles of electronic and dance music including: techno, house, breaks, hip-hop, R&B, reggae, and electronic. The KORG synthesizer also has numerous acoustic instruments such as piano, trumpet, and guitar that provide a further boost to your expressive resources. You can assign your favorite programs to 8 Program Memory buttons for instant recall, ensuring that your live performances will sound smooth. Extensively enhanced drum sounds: Rhythm can be the most important element when creating a phrase. In addition to the modeling synthesis borrowed from the original KAOSSILATOR, the KAOSSILATOR PRO synth provides a PCM sound generator as well, offering even more realistic drum sounds arranged in kits across the X/Y pad.
Copeland compressor model number nomenclature. If there is nothing in the seventh position, the compressor has mineral oil in it. The second position determines the application range (B = high/medium temperature, S = medium temperature, F = low temperature). The third and fourth positions represent the first two digits of the capacity of the compressor at its standard rating conditions and the fifth position gives the multiplier for the capacity (C = 100, K = 1,000, and M = 10,000). If there is a seventh position before the dash prior to the electrical designation, it will be an E (Polyol Ester oil) or an L (shipped less oil). The sixth position designates the compressor's model generation.
There are 20 one-shot sounds for kick, snare, hi-hat, and more, as well as 25 rhythm loop patterns to spark your creativity. Vocoder programs for creative audio effects: The KAOSSILATOR PRO features a mic input jack and 15 types of vocoder programs, making it easy to achieve unique sound effects, create robot voices, and more. 31 scales for musical expressiveness: The 31e scale types cover a range from chromatic scales to major, minor, blues, and beyond. By specifying a scale and key, you can use a single finger to play perfect melodies and phrases that would be difficult to play even on a keyboard. The synth also gives you special scales such as Spanish, Ryukyu, and Raga, letting you play phrases that have a distinctive flavor. Another boost in expressive power is provided by the KORG synth's Note Range function, which lets you specify the range of pitches available on the touchpad from a single octave up to 8 octaves. Gate arpeggiator provides tightly sync'ed grooves: Inspired by KORG's EMX-1 and ESX-1 Electribes, the KORG KAOSSILATOR PRO's gate arpeggiator allows you to play a pattern of sounds that are always in sync with the tempo, generating phrases that defy imagination.
The KAOSSILATOR PRO's slider can control the gate time or gate speed, allowing even more complex phrases to be produced. Tempos can be set manually or set on the fly using the Tap Tempo function. Loop recording with unlimited overdubbing: Loop Recording can be set for up to 4 measures/16 beats.
Your KORG KAOSSILATOR PRO musical performances can be recorded into one of the Loop Recorder Banks. By adding additional sounds one at a time (overdubbing), you can create amazing loop phrases by repeating the cycle of selecting a sound, playing a phrase, and recording the sound over and over again.
4 loop recording banks allow DJ-style performances: The KORG KAOSSILATOR PRO provides 4 Loop Recording Banks. These banks can be combined for virtually infinite performance possibilities. Each of the four loop banks can host infinite overdubs. In addition, each bank can be muted or unmuted, its volume adjusted, and its loop length changed, making dynamic live performances easy for anyone. An unneeded loop can be erased during playback and a new one recorded so there's no need to stop the performance.
Loop recording using an external source: The KORG KAOSSILATOR PRO provides line inputs and a mic input, allowing for loop recording using an external audio source. This makes it easy to add a rap, vocal, or audio from an external device to any loop phrase created on the KAOSSILATOR PRO synthesizer. USB + MIDI provides versatility and compatibility: The KAOSSILATOR PRO touchpad synth offers standard MIDI IN/OUT connectors. In addition, the USB connector lets you use your computer to back up the loop recording data, or even drop loops into your favorite DAW. The KAOSSILATOR PRO can also control your software applications or an external MIDI device. The KORG KAOSSILATOR PRO can send or receive MIDI clock.
Convenient SD card data storage: The KORG KAOSSILATOR PRO synthesizer provides an SD card slot for storing loop data and user settings such as program memories. Favorite phrases can be saved to build up a collection of loop data that will inspire your musical arrangements.
SD card storage also allows you to create the same show with the same loops, night after night. You can also swap loops with other KAOSSILATOR PRO users, or use your data in multiple units.
(Note: Not compatible with SDHC cards and SDXC cards.) Dedicated editor/librarian software: KORG KAOSSILATOR PRO Editor is a dedicated software program for managing your recorded loop data, as well as a MIDI assignment editor function that lets you transform the KAOSSILATOR PRO into a powerful MIDI controller that's set up just the way you want. KAOSSILATOR PRO Editor can be downloaded free of charge from the KORG website. (Note: Runs on Microsoft Windows XP (SP3 or later)/Vista (SP2 or later)/7 and on MAC OS X 10.4 or later.).

IN, OUT. Comments about Korg KAOSSILATOR PRO - Dynamic Phrase Synth/Loop Recorder: I'm going to have to give the Kaossilator the thumbs down simply for this reason: There is NO MIDI IN accessibility to the patches. In other words, you cannot hook it up to a keyboard and play it with a keyboard controller. The pad is not very accurate, either. So, it took me only a few minutes to realize this would not work for me. Great idea, Korg, just have the sounds be accessible and available via MIDI. Why else would you have a MIDI in plug?
Comments about Korg KAOSSILATOR PRO - Dynamic Phrase Synth/Loop Recorder: You don't really have to have any musical experience to have fun with this thing. If your into music like techno, dubstep, old school 8-bit sound effects, rock, pop, hip-hop, etc. Then this is a really cool instrument to get (especially for dj's). There are so many crazy noises this thing can generate. With in 30 seconds you can throw a song together on the spot!
You just select a sound to play with then hold down one of the bottom 4 buttons with one finger, then with your other hand, just tap the screen, depending on where you touch controls the note and effect, so you can make a custom drum beat or use the preset beats that are built into it (which help ALOT and are really fun to use) and then it will loop back what you recorded. From there I just throw on a bass line, crazy space age sound effects or even plug in a microphone (luckfully i had an xlr to 1/4' adapter for my microphone to plug into the kaossilator) You can make your voice sound like a robot or alien or make it sound low pitch like a demon. I love the gate arpeggiator as well, it really helps create music that would be impossible to play on a keyboard. The only problem is the usb cord (i just use the one my printer uses) and a SD card are sold seperately. You don't have to have a usb or sd card to play with it but if you want to save your music to your computer or sd card then you'll need it. (i don't use it) My suggestion is read the manual it comes with or read it on korg.com. Also check out videos of people using it on youtube or korg.com this is the most fun I have had playing on any instrument.
(for those who are wondering, I was able to plug my bass guitar into it, it's not a great sound but it does what I want it to). Comments about Korg KAOSSILATOR PRO - Dynamic Phrase Synth/Loop Recorder: The Kaossilator Pro have amazings sounds, good construction, its really cool. With this in your hands, ever you gona have somebody in your left saying 'waaooo thats cool '. But it have varios negatives: 1- It's Really Hard to syncronize with your cd players with only the tap bottom.
2- No can plug an external midi keyboard to play the sounds inside the kaossilator. 3- Hard to play with presicion. If you wanna a expecific note that its in your mind, is hard to find it in the first shot. 4- One Sound by time.
Its not a MPC. If you want to ear the Hit hat and the drum bass at the same time, its not possible.(NO TWO FINGERS AT THE SAME TIME) I studied music and play differents instruments and make djing.
Its a good equipment for make live fx riffs for remixes. Its better in the studio for create. But if you are looking to make loops and jamming it's better to buy the APC40 with a midi keyboard and with that you can play all that are in your mind with no un-expected notes.
Comments about Korg KAOSSILATOR PRO - Dynamic Phrase Synth/Loop Recorder: Was really excited to get this;interface was very cool. However, when you turn it off after recording loops/phrases/samples - they're all gone! So you'd have to load from the SD card & wait 'til its loaded up. Imagine a power outtage on stage - nothing is there in your K-pro except for what's on the SD card - so, total silence for 10 secs. Or so in a performance situation - not good, nor functional at all. It would be like turning your computer off & when turned back on, you'd have to reload all your apps, software & work - that would make computers useless; 2nd Korg instrument I've returned for lack of intuitive capabilities. Comments about Korg KAOSSILATOR PRO - Dynamic Phrase Synth/Loop Recorder: I'm primarily a guitar player and I picked up the Kaossilator as a sort of song writing tool for a project I was working on.
The one thing I'll say about this gear is that it really is a lot of fun. Its uses, however, are limited as to what I was hoping for. There weren't nearly enough sample sounds, and suprisingly hardly any variation in the drum tracks. I ended up returning this product and getting the KORG Microstation instead, which turned out to be a good decision.
Kaos pads are getting better, but KORG still has some work to do before I'll look at one again.
