Is there even supposed to be a Maschine Virtual Midi Port in windows, if not, does anyone know the correct set up to use maschine as a controller in Live for.

THe Ui16 also offers independent network interfaces on board for simultaneous control by Wi-Fi and Ethernet, plus a floor-ready rugged chassis for live applications. The Ui16 boasts eight XLR combo mic/line inputs, four XLR mic inputs, two channels of Hi- Z/instrument inputs, as well as a stereo RCA line input. A 2-channel USB media player is included, along with four balanced XLR Aux outputs, two quarter-inch headphone outputs with level control, plus balanced stereo XLR and quarter-inch main outputs. Two-channel USB audio playback is compatible with MP3, WAV and AIFF formats, and 2-channel USB Record direct-to-memory devices functionality is possible as well.

Gone are the EQs, compressors, digital effects, etc. (and even a guitar amp if you need complete simplicity) and other outboard bear along with all the power strips, cables and all else that goes with them. The sound is pristine and everything is adjustable at the swipe of a finger. I have had no issue with the wi-fi range or dropouts of any kind. And the kicker is this product is in its infancy with software updates that will bring new features and make this an even better deal.
The only complaint I have is they should have equipped it with 16 analog inputs (there is plenty of space to have had 4 more xlr/combo inputs) instead of 12 + 2 rca + 2 digital. Don't count the extra odd inputs of dubious usage, this is really only a 12 channel mixer but, a really outstanding one.

But, there's one big dumb drawback. The HDMI interface hasn't been implemented yet, and according to Soundcraft tech support on 3/7/16, it still isn't going to be as of the upcoming update. I bought mine nearly a year ago, partially on the merit that I could use any HTML 5 device or connect an HDMI monitor/keyboard/mouse. A couple months ago I finally bought a monitor so I could use keyboard and mouse (mobile devices are fine, but the controls are touchy and the occasional resultant feedback is a real downer. It was delivered Friday afternoon and was in use at a show 3 hours later. Wireless had a couple of drop-outs but reconnected automatically within seconds. Setup was easy, controls are spot-on, no latency issues, navigation is easy, feedback elimination was easy to set up and works, the lexicon effects are really great and being browser based gives the ability to control it from anything with no app crashes. I used a laptop for main control and a tablet to wander around and fine-tune. Two shows this weekend, one I ran sound for two bands and the other was our own show and our sound tech, who initially turned their nose up at it gave it a thumbs up by the end of the night. Scenes can be saved for 'per song' basis, great if you have any special settings needed without having to dial them in manually, shows can be saved for recall when playing the same venues, or as a base line for other venues. Haven't played with the amp/ cab modeling or the record option yet, but if these functions work as good as the rest I'm sure there will be no disappointment.
The one thing I would have liked to see is a full 16 main inputs instead of 12, but it's enough for me, outputs are plentiful, 4 aux outs plus 2 headphone jacks can be configured as aux outs for a total of 6. The only 'issue' I am having with it so far is I do want to be able to run it via a LAN cable if we ever have connectivity issues, Windows 8 recognizes it but doesn't want to connect to it and the documentation isn't much help here. I'm sure I'll be able to configure it manually, but a little more help from the user manual would have been nice. It can be run as simple or as in depth as you want, very versatile and definitely worth buying at this price!
With active speakers just this and a handful of cables is all that's needed, no more snakes, big mixers, rack boxes full of eq's, compressors, gates. I especially like the fact that you don't need to download & install an app to use it. Just connect to the wifi and control it with your browser by opening a web page. I have not experienced the noisy output (hiss) that some have complained about. But, I have found some major bugs in the user interface (with firmware version V1.0.4246): 1.) MAJOR BUG: Show & Snapshots page hangs/freezes in the Ui touch interface.
Phone interface only - the tablet interface web page does not have this issue. The 'OK' & 'Cancel' buttons in the dialog pop-up are unresponsive to touch/tap when saving a new snapshot, or saving the current snapshot, or renaming a snapshot, or deleting a snapshot.
This makes navigation impossible and the interface is essentially frozen. For example, when deleting a snapshot, a confirmation dialog pop-up is displayed with 'OK' & 'CANCEL' buttons. But, neither button responds to a touch/tap. There is no other way to exit the delete snapshot dialog and return to mixer view. The entire interface is hung. Browser session must be restarted to at least get control back. Thus, it is impossible to use snapshots with the phone interface.
2.) Normal BUG: The Edge Browser in Windows 10 does not work with a touchscreen display. Mouse control & tapping the touchscreen work fine in the Edge browser. BUT, using the touchscreen to drag faders does not work. 3.) MINOR User Interface issue: Difficult to keep finger on a fader in the phone interface. This behavior has been verified with an iPhone 5s, an Android Nexus 7, and an iPad (all loading the phone interface). The Tablet interface allows my finger to drift off of the fader strip after grabbing and dragging it, keeping control of the fader.
BUT, using the Phone interface, fader control is lost when the the touch finger drifts off of the fader strip. I notified Soundcraft more than 3 months ago. Still, they have not been addressed. Comments about Soundcraft Ui16 Digital Mixer with Wi-Fi Router: One of the best features is the built in music player, which keeps MP3 tracks in order and in their proper folders. The basic mix functions work properly, however, a major shortcoming is the failure of the 'view' to save with each 'show' setting. This feature would be much more useful if the view setting followed each of the saved snapshots. Another design shortcoming that any user will need to know before operating for the first time is that the 'default' setting is utterly useless.
It is basically OFF for all the channel gains, and the limiters on all channels. Before installing, I always set the gain on each channel to +30, and set the limiters on each channel so the 'ratio', 'attack', & 'release' are all fully down to the bottom of the slider. Also go to settings and switch the 'global aux send point' to 'pre processing, and be sure to switch the 'aux mute inheritance' to 'on'.
Otherwise the channel mute will not mute the monitors, which makes it pointless. Then Be sure to save the settings as your new default. I can't imagine what the designers were thinking; the 'default' setting should be a basic starting point for using the mixer. Band members were navigating and setting their instrument and voice sounds after just a few minutes of playing with it.
I love the preset option since each song's entire bunch of settings can be easily saved by name and recalled at the touch of a button. It makes the sound engineer's job more simple since he might only have to tweak it. I really like the feedback suppression, and also that no snake cable is needed. I'm using an ethernet cable on one computer for safety of connection (even though no issues with wireless). If the electricity goes off for two or three seconds then the sound goes off (as with even any analog mixer) but it takes about 30 seconds for the sound to come back on after the power is back working. I'm using a cheap UPS with surge protection backup which avoids this & also is protection for the circuitry. I read in some reviews about a hissing issue.
I do not notice this problem. I'm using high quality powered mains that are already quiet, with XLR balanced cables from the Soundcraft UI-16 to their inputs. Probably the most important thing at the very beginning of setup is to first adjust correctly each of the preamp's for mics and instruments (no sound at all if you don't; Soundcraft should emphasize this in their instructions). Tap the slider knob on each one of the channel volume faders (to get into Mic/Gain mode) and increase the Mic/Gain fader to the highest amount before clipping. As with any mixer, if the preamp gain is set too low then the channel volume faders must be increased to try to make up for low signal strength. If the signal is weak then hissing will occur.
The same with the main output volume fader. It should be set reasonably high (but leave some headroom for sound engineer adjustment) so that the front of house speakers do not have to amplify a weak signal which will cause additional hiss (most of you already know this). It is very well thought out, the huge amount of features, great effects, anti-feedback (DBX), EQs, flexibility just make this thing awesome for the small investment you will spend.
And the unique broweser based web controls are truly device agnostic. Most products in this category require an app, or software, and usually are limited to a few devices. Just use an up to date browser. And you can have up to 10 devices online at any time. It really is a great mixer for a small to medium band, or smallish live events. I use it for smaller venue and band live sound and it's great for that. The built in effects are great for vocals, drums and more. The UI is easily navigated in tablet mode but the phone mode is limited and clumsy. I get around that by doing the initial set up with laptop or tablet and then I can maintain most of the rest of the show from my phone if I'd like. For 300 or so it's hard to beat and from a reputable maker in the live music scene. I will use this mixer for live gigs, festivals, & record mastering for distribution CDs. I have opted to used my Ui-16 with an attached external wi-fi router as the mixer's built-in wi-fi hot spot can be problematic in areas of heavy wi-fi activity. I was able to buy the mixer at a discount near the same price as the Ui-12. I do a lot of PA & recording work for a lot of small (4 or 5 piece) acoustic bands and this mixer is absolutely perfect for my needs. I can't say enough good things about about the built-in features & flexibility.

I'm using it for live band performances for a 5 piece group and controlling it with a laptop connection by Ethernet cable. I prefer the Ethernet cable as a snake since it is the most robust connection with no WiFi interference or signal drop. You can use WiFi easy, I just prefer the hardwired old school connection. The set up was a breeze. I had not problems whatsoever. Dialing in gain setting and basic mix settings was very easy. I use this to mic a drumset and found the EQ and Compressor presets to be a huge help in getting close to where I wanted to be. My only gripe is the location of the power switch. I mounted this in a rack and it is very difficult to get to the switch.
Very easy to work with and the sound is great. Effects are great. I am very impressed with this product!
