Is it displaying two channels on the panel of Cool edit? Go to the control panel, click on the Sounds and Audio Devices icon.
Click on the Audio tab, then in the Sound Recording default device and make sure the mic is selected. I have gone from 2.0 to 2.1, I have tried Adobe Audition 3.0 even and all seem to have the same problem. My voice only comes out the left speaker when I play stuff I recorded but for some reason the beat plays out both speakers. Most likely you will have to open your mixer and select Properties; choose the Record properties and set your microphone input in the middle, so that it's balanced on left and right. By the way, if you learn to use the 'noise removal/keep' control, you can do a great job of taking off voices and having a stereo result, simply by getting the noise sample to keep, while discarding the voice. This even works on mono recording. My oldest home-made karoke was one recorded by Kay Starr in 1948.
I have a slightly different issue. While I do see the left channel only thing on Cool Edit Pro 2.1, and it essentially works on Win 7, I am having trouble recording to my Cool Edit Pro (old version) that I'm running on Windows XP Mode in the Windows Virtual PC option on Win Ultimate 7. It installed fine, and I can open a static.wav or.mp3 file, and ostensibly edit it any way I need to, but I cannot record to it via the Line In cord, from an external audio source, the same way I can into Cool Edit Pro 2.1. Can anyone offer some solutions or feedback into this problem?
Thanks, raider90. Oh good grief, what HAVE they done to the recording mixer in Windows 7???????????
I have been happily using Cool Edit Pro at home for years and Adobe Audition at work. However, just got a new laptop with Windows 7. Managed to get Cool Edit pro working, - BUT there is one MAJOR problem. When I wish to add vocals to music I cannot find a way to stop it recording what's playing back off existing tracks with the sound coming in through the line in. This has never been a problem before. I'd just go to the Windows mixer and select the line in as the recording source, play what I'd already recorded while recording the new sound on the next track. But this seems to be impossible now.
How can that be so???? Wow, I am late to this and for that I am sorry, but I'll put it out there in case it helps you. I have used CEP 2.1 for years and years, still recording on an XP machine, which is absolutely fine by me, but it is a desktop and hard to move from place to place. I recently installed the program on a new windows 7 laptop so I could record some small stuff on the move.
I don't know why people are having problems, it installed and works fine on Win 7!!?!? Oh well, anyways. Yes, the mixer program is no longer there.
What I had to do was goto START - Control Panel - Sound (or something similar, maybe Audio Devices) From here make sure your External Mic Input (High def blah, blah) is set to default and check the properties, make sure it is working and turned on! Now back to Cool Edit, goto Options - Device Properties Under the Line In tab, move everything EXCEPT External Mic to the left 'unused' box. Until I figured this out, it would only record from the laptop mic on thebuilt in web cam. Now it works with any mic/mixer plugged into the microphone jack. I know I'm over a year late, but hope this helps. If you need further help just shoot me a message on youtube: www.youtube.com/TomAwesome39 On an unrelated note, I upgraded from 2.0 to 2.1 on Windows 7 machine and am missing some menu items like 'Generate' and 'Effects' menus are completely empty.
